- The Solana Foundation recently took firm steps by removing several operators from their delegate program due to being involved in malicious pinning attacks. This step was taken to protect retail users from detrimental transaction exploitation.

Reasons for Carrier Expenses by the Solana Foundation

According to a report from TechFlow, some operators have been involved in pinning attacks, where attackers place two transactions around the victim's transaction to manipulate prices and reap profits. 

This attack is considered very detrimental because it can result in significant financial losses for users who are unaware of the manipulation. 

The Solana Foundation confirmed that they will ensure that validators who carry out pinning attacks will no longer receive delegations from them​​.

The delegation program from the Solana Foundation aims to support network decentralization by providing incentives to operators running validation nodes. Eligible operators may receive additional delegations from the Foundation to assist them in securing their networks. 

However, with the discovery that several operators were carrying out detrimental activities, the Foundation decided to take firm action to maintain the integrity and trust in their network​​.

Despite these operator spending measures, Solana continues to show stable performance. The latest report shows that the Solana network had an uptime of 99.94% in the last 12 months, reflecting the reliability and stability of the network​​. 

Additionally, decentralization metrics such as Solana's Nakamoto Coefficient remain at 31, indicating that at least 31 validators would have to collude to control the network, indicating a healthy distribution of power among validators​​.

To avoid similar incidents in the future, the Solana Foundation is updating its delegation strategy. They plan to continuously monitor and balance delegations every few epochs to ensure that delegation distribution remains fair and that no one validator dominates the network. 

With this strategy, Solana hopes to improve network security while supporting the growth of new validators who can make a positive contribution to the ecosystem​​.
